Social Media Marketing – Getting Better

This is a continuation of my real-life digital marketing experience, and is a sequel to the previous bLAWg post which you can check out here

Iconosquare – Social Media Tracker

After analysing existing data on Iconosquare, I begun building a posting schedule based on content that I felt would provide the most value for our followers. I started with a fairly basic Facebook posting schedule that aligned with times that users were most active to maximise reach (in this case our two busiest peaks were 4PM and 9PM).

The type of content posted was a compilation of different genres that aligned and was relevant to both our brand and our consumers. At this stage, everything was very ambiguous and there was a lot of trial and error in developing the most suitable content.

For example, post formats such as image/video posts and the orientation of those posts (landscape/portrait/square). Many considerations were made and were determined by what was most convenient for our followers. E.g. There were more mobile than desktop users so I optimised our post formats to portrait to suit the elongated nature of mobile devices.

After a greater understanding of our consumer segments, improvement in analytics of metrics and data I was able to provide value through the form of content marketing on the forefront of the company’s social media platforms.

It becomes easier, and evolves into a matter of A/B testing and trialling to determine the most effective content, post types, posting times etc.. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed my taste of digital marketing, especially the creative aspects in using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere to create image and video posts (which isn’t necessary but I was familiar with the Adobe suite), despite the steep learning curve in the beginning.
